I could not do the WeeSale without my four assistants. Carissa , Mellen , Christina and Teresa. They are without a doubt the most hardworking, supportive, and Christian women I know. They are the reason the Upscale WeeSale is organized – My “organization queens” put in over 100 hours of work each season. A big thank you to their extremely patient and supportive husbands, who become mom, dad, babysitter, cook, and taxi drivers for their children each season.
Carissa, Matthew, Rose, and Mary James
I began WeeSale as a consignor 12 years ago and I rely on it for more than just clothes and kid supplies. The WeeSale is my girl time; an oasis from my hectic normal world into this hectic world of chaos and camaraderie. As a volunteer I would always find myself staying longer and longer just for the fellowship and the fun we all had together. Now Kim makes sure we have PLENTY of hours together to get the “WeeSale fix.” My amazing husband, Matt, is the support that allows me to continue to take weeks at a time away from my family and I am so thankful for him and the 18 years we have been married. He was my Jr. High School Sweetheart and I love him dearly. My two girls keep me in stitches and bring so much joy to my life. Rosie (13) is a swim addict who swims year around for the RAYS. After homeschooling for several years, she is a 7th grader this year and York Prep. Academy. MaryElisabeth (10) is a 4th grader at York Prep. Academy and is our resident philosopher with an opinion on everything. I never know what will come out of her mouth next, but she truly keeps life exciting. I am so blessed. I got my Masters in Secondary Education from Winthrop University in 1999.
Mellen, Darryl, Neely and Isaac Shugart
The Upscale Weesale is a big part of the Shugart Family. I began consigning 10 years ago when my daughter was 12 months old. I look forward to the Weesale each season because it allows me to do what I love to do best: shop! It also allows me to do what I love to do 2nd best: sell! What began many years ago as a double volunteer shift plus many more hours to earn the perks of consigning is now a passion! I could not do this without the help and support of my high school sweetheart, Darryl Shugart, who I’ve been married to for 20 years. We have one daughter, Neely, 11, who loves sports, piano, and singing in many choirs, including District Honors Choir. She loves to shop at the Weesale for all her upcoming school/summer needs. Little did we know this past year God would bless us with our second miracle child, Isaac Cameron, who arrived in May, 2010. Although we’ve “started all over again”, our family is now complete with the addition of the son we prayed for, for so many years. Now the Weesale is even more exciting for me!!! Outside the Weesale, I am privileged to be a stay-at-home Mom to Neely and Isaac. Although not currently practicing, I am a licensed LBSW Social Worker, having graduated from Winthrop College in 1991 with a Bachelor of Social Work degree.
Lowell, Christina, John, Jussely, Anna, and Alston Davis
My name is Christina Davis. I have lived in Rock Hill since 1988. I am a graduate of the College of Charleston with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Early Childhood. The summer before my senior year, Mellen Shugart introduced me to my husband John at church. We were married a year and a half later and have been happily married for 17 years. We have four awesome children who help me to enjoy the simple and good things in life. Jussely is 15 and is the best teenager ever! He is a great help at the Wee Sale. Lowell is 10 and is our in-house handiman/inventor. Anna just turned 8 and is a true mother to all in need. To her, a band-aid and a hug can fix anything. Alston, our youngest, is 6. She keeps our house filled with music and hides all our treasures to “keep them safe.” I began consigning and volunteering at the Spring Wee Sale of 2000. What began as a way to be a good steward of my money quickly became a much more meaningful experience. I have developed lasting friendships and I am able to participate in something I feel makes a difference in people’s lives. I consider it a privilege and an honor to work with Kim, Mellen and Carissa. Kim runs her business with the utmost professionalism and integrity. Whether you are a consignor, volunteer, shopper or a vendor, Kim strives to make each Sale a successful and pleasant experience. I look forward to meeting each of you at our next Sale!
